Some people just don't know shit...
Just watched I, Robot. It's not that bad really, considering what people were saying of it. Of course, it's also not that good, the story doesn't surprise at any point and the 'plot twists' are so telegraphed that the only way they could be made plainer is if the first scene had Will Smith giving the audience the time-stamp for each of them. It also has that slightly icky Hollywood tiptoeing around morality and psychology thing that I really noticed in Minority Report (the way that, in that, Tom Cruise's marriage and life is going down the tubes because of the death of his son, when he's saved the world at the end of the film not only does he get his wife back but she gets pregnant so that they'll get a replacement for their dead child). This film makes some pretense of being all about questions of what constitutes consciousness, free will and can a robot be truly alive, then sidesteps them in the final scene to allow Will Smith's character, Del Spooner, to sidestep Sonny's responsibility for the death of his creator, because he's not human. Never mind that the rest of the film is trying to persuade us that Sonny is not just a machine. And as for Spooner's ridiculous prejudice against robots, the fact that no-one seems to have noticed his displaced survivors guilt and made him see a shrink about it.
And as for it being 'suggested by a story by Isaac Asimov'... there are faint echoes here and there. Viki's masterplan is based around the 'Zeroeth Law', which Asimov formulated to allow his robots to act against individual humans for the good of humanity. Trust Hollywood to turn it into something more directly threatening.
However, the film looks lovely, much like Minority Report really. I can't tell if they've shared crew. It's a dumb movie that doesn't accept it's stupid. It would be more fun if it had.

(Really Normal)
Otherwise known as the normal amount of normal
You're like most people most of the time
But you've got those quirks that make you endearing
You're unique, yes... but not frighteningly so!
How Normal Are You?
I really get a kick out of being defined by these quizzes. Is that normal? OMG it is!
