I've started reading The Boy in the Dress by David Walliams. This is the book that [livejournal.com profile] gair declined to read because she's a cowardy custard and has nits.

Initial impressions are, much to my surprise, mildly positive. Getting Quentin Blake to illustrate will, I think, turn out to be a mistake for Walliams as he comes across as a emasculated Roald Dahl in his writing and doesn't really need anything to emphasise the comparison.

[livejournal.com profile] gerald has read it now! She says it is stupid and badly written but NOT EVIL (and in fact less stupid than Debbie Harry Sings In French). We are surprised.

And also note that these days boys do not cross-dress until their girlfriends make them. Unenterprising boys! Why are you not rifling your sisters'/mothers' cupboards like your forefathers before you?

I wish I'd been a girlie, just like my dear papa.

Of course, in my day, things were tough, and not having a girlfriend to pressure me into her clothes I had to make my own entertainment and look for myself in my Mum's wardrobe for things she hadn't worn for twenty years that it was safe to pinch. Baby trannies today, they don't know they're born...
