I've been watching The Prophecy which I think has some claim to be one of the best films of the Nineties. The angel Gabriel has come to earth in the form of Christopher Walken has come to earth to take the soul of recently deceased psycho Vietnam general Hawthorne which will allow him to win a war that has been fought in heaven since Christ was crucified, an act which brought humans closer to God than angels, which caused a faction of them, led by Gabriel, to rebel against the throne of God. Co-starring Eric Stoltz as Simon and a pre-LotR Viggo Mortensen as Lucifer, as well as Elias Koteas and Amanda Plummer.

Atheism might be one of the best ways to run your life but Christianity has the best stories. The Devil, burnt by his love for the Name, taking the Fall and leaving His side forever because out of love he's willing to sacrifice everything to make sure his Boyfriend's Creation works? I had an old JW friend who once told me that Jesus was the Angel Michael in human form.

The Bible is the greatest Choose Your Own Adventure book ever, but no-one seems interested in reading it that way.

Well, I watched the second on pay-per-view and couldn't believe it was written by the same guy. It really was terrible, so I decided that three was likely to equally suck.

Are you people on Crack? The Prophesy II is perhaps the best film in history. Note in particular that it is The Prophesy II, whereas the Prophesy 3 is the Prophesy 3. No explanation of this is given.

I particularly like the opening of the Prophesy, where Elias Koteas (who is, by the way, my God) has the terrible vision at his ordination. We cut to a homicide. And who should be investigating it? Yes, it's Elias Koteas. Who, in the manner of many young seminarians who lost their faith, has become a hard-bitten homicide detective.

Ahem. Walken's performance is _superb_, though. Looking back, his dance training must be a factor, but the way he communicates the weightlessness of Gabriel, the hollow bones and avian characteristics is excellent.
