And what was the Judge's well thought out, wise and sagacious decision for this?

He was spared even a community punishment because the judge ruled that "special circumstances" suggested he was unlikely to reoffend and his job meant he was too "busy" to find the time to complete any order.

SO, if I were to kill Shrubya on my holiday and then point out that he's the only scumbag I really dislike and I have a 9-5 job at a library to return to, that'll be okay then? What the cock is going on when you have A FUCKING JUDGE believing the criminal justice system is not there to inconvenience someone who has committed GBH on someone else?

Amongst all the rest of the crap in this story there is the scale of the fine. We really don't have an effective system of fining people: it needs to be punitive to all on a broadly equal basis. The basic cost of living in the UK must be, oh, call it 10k/year at the moment - that'll cover rent, council tax, water, food, and not going on any flash holidays; so someone on 12k/yr a 2k fine would be really very damaging to.

Whereas this little shite could be fined 75k before it would actually start hurting. And 75k to a randomly chosen refuge for those fleeing domestic violence would be a useful sized bit of cash. Can the public not lodge an appeal against a sentence, damnit?

Nice clean middle class boy in a suit. Let's fine him a week's wages, so he knows we understand the pressures he was under and that we know it won't happen again - his wife having left him, branded and knifed.

Wonder how much negative publicity it would take for his company to put him out to pasture at least, thus freeing him up to do some community service. If I ran a Fortune 500 company, I'd be thrilled to have L.E.K. Consulting send him over to do a spot of very expensive consulting.

This would appear to be his professional profile, enumerating the many wonders of Colin Read. No mention of his hobby of brutal domestic violence.
