So I was talking to one of the more sane people that use our library and we got on to the subject of what makes us feel, when we get into bed at the end of the day, that we've had a good day. For her it was that she felt she'd been able to make a positive contribution to someone else's life, for me it was that I'd spent the least amount of time being bored and/or that I'd made progress in my writing. She went on to say that it was her experience that women's feelings of value tended to be based on something outside of themselves, while men tended to value something within themselves.
Rash generalisations like this I tend to scoff at, and she was the first to admit that this was based on a very small and unrepresentative sample, so I thought I'd throw it open to my very own small and unrepresentative sample for their opinions.
