Delegate Cosgrove in Virginia wants to make it a crime for women to have miscarriages. There are not words for how appalling this is. Surely even the most fucked-up, abortion-clinic-bombing, abortion-doctor-killing fundie shithead can't support this, though I expect if I looked I could be disappointed very quickly...

That's insanity. Miscarriages are often totally natural.

An entirely new level of head-melting ignorance. What exactly is the purpose of such a proposal? Wait, here it is, from Cogrove himself...

"This bill, which was requested by the Chesapeake Police Department, is an attempt to reduce the number of "trashcan" babies that are born and then abandoned in trashcans, toilets, or elsewhere to die from exposure or worse. There are numerous examples of these tragic deaths in Virginia, many in Northern Virginia and also in Hampton Roads. Once the body of a child is found, if the death of that child is undetermined by a coroner, the person abandoning that child can only be charged with "the improper disposal of a human body".

Which is far different from "fetal death". And haven't these idiots heard of "an embryo"? I am incensed.

I can achieve nothing more coherent on this subject than "GAH!"

Kit-Cat here

I believe that the wording of the bill has been amended as a result of scores of complaints from sufferers of miscarriages and others, to reflect the stated intent behind the bill. Which is something at least.

Yeha, it looks like they've backed down a bit in the face of a giant internet-generated wave of "YOU WHAT?" Hehehehehehe.
