Because someone had to say it.

I admit that I haven't paid more than minimal attention to what she did and didn't do, I'm just concerned with the fact that so many people on LJ, blogger, BBs, opinion pieces seem to be so keen on this "she's only getting done because she's a woman and it's the system pushing down an uppity bitch, look at Ken Lay for fuck's sake!"

Which rather denies her ability to distinguish between right and wrong.

I think it's not that the system IS down on her because she's a woman but because she doesn't know the right people. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't get the impression that she's a particularly close confident and friend of the Bush party, unlike everyone in Enron. If she were then I think they'd have made a bit more effort, like getting Arnie into California to help sign off and minimise how much debts Enron have to pay, to help her out. With this administration it's not the size of your tits but how much money you give them. Martha didn't pay off the right people.

OK, everything above is a wild guess, so feel free to demolish my cunning arguments... :)

Yes, I think you have a good point Flowers. Isn't she a democrat? I thought she was always over at the White House during the Clinton Admin.

BTW

"FUCK Martha Stewart! She's polishing the brass on the Titanic!" ~Tyler Durden

It has been said already. :P

Oh, I think the legal system is absolutely right on in punishing her. My opinion on the media is less kind. Perhaps I've seen too many front page caricatures of her with pointy hat and wart, behind bars.

OK, that kind of thing is rather OTT...

Ah...someone had to say it, again!

Allow me to chime in then..."FUCK, MARTHA STEWART!"

I feel better.

Now I am picturing her with a pointy hat behind bars...Oh yeah, fuck you Martha! You beeatch...I am going to fuck you with the strap-on you made for me out of my old shank and some *Daily Mail! It's a good thing, isn't it?!

*brand of tobacco given to inmates.

Well let's be precise here. She done it alright. She's guilty as charged and deserves to do hard time.

What is annoying people of a certain ilk in the US is that whilst Martha's white collar crimes are sort of those silly little winged collars that you wear a bow tie with compared to pewople like Ken Lay whose crimes are the sort of collars that Neil Diamond used to wear in the mid seventies, but Martha was rigorously pursued by the US justice department because she is a prominent liberal, known Democrat supporter and also a generous donor to family planning clinics, everything the Bush White House hates

Ahh, I didn't know all this you see. So it's not a woman that's being punished (or rather, not being allowed to circumvent justice) but a brand of liberalism that as you say, is everything the Administration hates.

Yeah, and that's the sort of thing I was commenting on in my journal. I have no complaints about the legal system's treatment of the woman; it's solely the media.

I admit to having a couple of her cookbooks, though I think I got them as gifts. I prefer Rachel Ray and Alton Brown for my TV chef needs.

There is something very mythic about the whole thing. Stewart has that whole two-faces-of-Juno thing going on.

The thing is that the people going after her are the ones making it about gender and conspiracy. The people defending and representing her have only said, "Yes, she did it," or "No, she didn't, and you guys are assholes." There is a woman at the New York Post who is especially bad, but I can't remember her name. Maybe [livejournal.com profile] grantb knows.
