Nov. 7th, 2010 09:47 amTwo simple questions for your Sunday.
How long have you lived where you live now?
and
How close do you live to a road you've never walked along since you lived there?
I've been where I am for almost eleven months now and, although I've been exploring around I'm probably still close to roads I've walked along yet, I can think of at least two within a quarter-mile radius of me without thinking hard and, if I fished out my A-Z could probably locate a bunch more in quick succession. They are little roads that connect places I have walked together but in such ways as to not be particularly useful shortcuts. I do have my inner London map walking plan, may be going out this afternoon if weather's good, but there is just something at the moment that has captured my mayflower attention about roads. The last time I went to visit my parents for a weekend I went for a walk. They live in the small Kent Village where I grew up, yet within twenty minutes of stepping out their front door I was walking down a road I had never travelled along, by foot, bike or car, in my thirty four years.
The new is rarely that far away.
(When I moved down here I had a vague idea about walking along the Old Kent Road but, after a year, I have to admit I can't see much point. It's not like it's a particularly nice road and an hour of sucking down car fumes isn't going to be much fun. If we have snow though, it could well be a different matter.)
