Are Elbow just the Oasis it's okay to like?
Because I'm convinced that Elbow are the better band by far on pretty much every available measure (except in terms of cash ;) ) and I think that in their lyrics they deal with masculinity, masculinism, maleness and sex in a way no-one has before, except possibly the Manic Street Preachers in their early days, from a very different direction. But I'm a biased fan, so I want the opinion of those who haven't supped on the kool-aid.
Something Guy Garvey said on the South Bank Show, which I only got round to watching this afternoon: "My Mum said she thought I was allowing blokey blokes somewhere to go and be upset or be in love, be emotional... I'm very proud of that if that's the case" which captures the attraction for me exactly, even if despite the beard and the bulk I don't consider myself a 'blokey bloke'.
