Mar. 17th, 2006 06:30 pmV For Vendetta is not shit! It's not the most wonderfullest thing ever, the Government isn't explicitly fascist any more and V is now a lovable freedom-fighter rather than a fucked-up anarchist, but it gets most of the key points, Evey's imprisonment/letter from Valerie, the symphony, the dominos, the Viking Funeral, Larkhill, and V never takes off his mask or explicitly says who he is. The best part is a new addition, where Evey is taken in by the sympathetic Dietrich, a wonderful performance by Stephen Fry, who hides forbidden documents in his cellar like the Koran or Robert Mapplethorpe photo's, tortured by the fact that, as a gay man, he cannot be open about his life.
So yes, not completely awful.
