Finally had some snow that stayed on the ground this morning, seeing as it's so bad in Kent that my parents not only called off me coming down for Mum's birthday but then forbad me to attempt the journey. Local hyperbolists are apparently calling it the worst snowfall since '87, which I don't really remember. We had several heavy snowfalls between '89 and '94 though, because I remember the way the entire Grammar school would flood out on to the school field at first break and proceed to snowball-fight the lower years until the fields were as dry as though it were the middle of a drought-hit summer, which we also had for several years, post-privatisation.

The snow here didn't last, by lunchtime it had either melted or got washed away by rain. Still, I got my passport application in and accepted at the post office at last (I tried to put it in on wednesday but the person who signed to say I was a person of impecable class and manners left off how she knew me so they wouldn't take it). From the tone of how they asked me when I was travelling they seemed to be surprised that I was displaying the foresight to actually arrange this several months before the holiday in question. I just hope that they follow the letter and deliver it to me at work. What happens with 'Secure Delivery' if you're not in when they try to deliver it? Do you have to go to the sorting office? I don't have a driving license and I'm sending them my birth certificate so I'm not sure that I've got proof of ID if I needed to show any to get it. Oh well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Nuts, I automatically deleted last night's Culture Show after watching it. This all has a big IIRC about it. Tim Lott, complains there is too much literature these days, too many books, they aren't any good, when he was a kid he read genuine classics like Lord of the Flies, where is that standard of writing today, who's writing the literary equivelent of Donnie Darko, and in the end it's probably all Bloggers' fault. I think.

All I can say is, if a collection of Bloggers and writers of crap books means the world doesn't give Tim Lott the respect he thinks is his right, then good. He asks for classics but doesn't bother to ask anyone for classics, else they might say "Have you read Middlesex then Tim? Or any Philip Pullman? Surely you've read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell Timbo?" But of course, to know if these are real classics we're going to have to wait awhile.

The more people that write the more crap that will be produced and I'm doing what I can to help out there.

Now all I need is for someone to come along and tell me I completely misrepresented his argument.
